Still time to register to air your views on council services

Date published: 04 June 2015

Residents are being reminded that there is still time to register for the opportunity to air their views about council services during an event being held in Middleton this month.

The annual ‘Equalities Listening Event’, held at Middleton Arena on Tuesday 16 June, is a chance for everyone to give their views about how council services are being delivered in the borough.

The council wants to know how easy it is for you to access council services and is interested in your ideas to improve the way they are delivered.

The event is being held from 10am to 2pm and will allow local people to comment on any barriers to accessing services and securing employment which may be faced by men, women, younger people, older people, people with disabilities, people with caring responsibilities, LBGT and those from black and ethnic minority communities.

It’s free to attend and a light lunch will be served. There will be a live performance by the Carers Choir, an exhibition of local support services and poetry reading from Norman Warwick (Just Poets).

The session is part of the council’s commitment to ensuring that everyone is treated fairly and to make sure residents get a say in how council services are run. The event complements work done all year round to improve services by listening to user feedback.

To book your free place please email equalitieslisteningevent@rochdale.gov.uk or contact Janet Grainger on 01706 924854.

Councillor Dalaat Ali, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Communities said: “We want to help make the council better for everyone and feedback from events such as this helps to shape what we do and how we do it. We’ve already had a great response, but there’s still time to book a place. Everyone is welcome, so come along and share your views.”

The Equalities Listening Event takes place at the Middleton Arena on Tuesday 16 June between 10am and 2pm. Registration is from 9.15am.
