The annual Heywood 1940s Day, which will take place on Saturday 20 June, has just got a whole lot better with the Heywood Business Group announcing a spectacular new attraction for 2015.
This year, along with the tanks, artillery guns and jeeps from Cordwells Militaria, ‘The Battle of Britain Experience’ will bring along three full sized replica planes.
A full sized replica Spitfire, the most famous plane of WW2, will be situated on the market car park and on the Hill Street encampment will be the Hurricane, alongside a German Messerschmitt.
Each plane stands at 30ft by 30ft and over 9ft in height.
Mike Goldrick, Vice Chairman of the Heywood Business Group, said: “This is a massive coup for the Business Group and Heywood. We hope that having these planes along with the Hurricane Flyover too, takes our 1940s Day to another level.
"We really don’t know of any other 1940s movement in the area which has this kind of attraction. It is a must see so be sure to put this date, 20 June, in your diary."
The planes are to be assembled on site early on Saturday (20 June) morning with help from the Heywood Air Cadets.
