Crimble Croft IT boost

Date published: 03 June 2015

Crimble Croft residents have set up their own digital hub thanks to almost £2,500 of funding from RBH.

The new digital hub will provide the opportunity for local residents to gain or improve IT skills whether this be to apply for jobs, download music or keep in touch with family and friends.

Members of the mutual housing society last year voted to award £1,965 from their Members Choice scheme to set up the project at Crimble Croft Community Centre. In addition RBH allocated a further £500 to fund an IT tutor.

The hub was officially opened by Ian MacKeracher, 72, a resident at the nearby Lindum Court supported housing scheme who later took the opportunity to try his hand on one of the computers.

RBH has helped to set up a number of digital hubs around the borough. In keeping with its mutual values the hubs exchange advice and information to provide residents with additional support.

Mike Nolan, Chairman of Heywood East Tenants and Residents Association, was delighted to see the hub open for the benefit of local people. He said: “Our roots are very much in the community and so we’re very pleased that we’ve been able to open the hub.

“The support from RBH has been really important in getting this off the ground - the hub just wouldn’t have taken place without it.”

Residents interested in getting some IT training should call 01706 620340 or email crimblecroft@hotmail.co.uk

Nasreen Akhtar, RBH Community Partnership Worker, said: “We’re thrilled that our members allocated funding to help Crimble Croft launch their digital hub.

“Digital training is a great way of putting our mutual values into practice as it enables residents to support one another within and between neighbourhoods.”
