Hundreds to join in Springy’s moonlit sprint or stroll - in froggy onesies!

Date published: 01 June 2015

Springhill Hospice has announced a summer sponsored walk experience that could create quite a spectacle - as up to 500 people dressed in froggy onesies take part.

The Hospice’s amphibious mascot is headlining this year’s 10km event “Springy’s Moonlit Sprint or Stroll” on 4 July at 9.30pm.

Lillie Winterbottom Community Fundraiser for Springhill, said: “Every year we try to create a fun fundraising event and this year we’ve really pushed the boat out. We’ve created 500 froggy onesies for this 10km circular walk, every walker will get their very own Springy suit.

"Starting and finishing from Rochdale Rugby Union Club and taking in Norden and Bamford along the way, the sight of 500 frogs should be quite spectacular.”

After a light aerobic warm up from local Zumba instructor Becky Smithies, Springy’s 500 will be setting off at 9.30 pm and, as usual, enjoying a great night out with and for the Hospice.

On returning to the club everyone will be met with a Springhill smile from Springy the Frog and awarded with a medal for all their efforts, after which they can tuck in to a bacon sandwich and a well-earned cup of tea.

Team Springhill took the walk onesies out for a trial run this weekend when they entered a team into the Dragon Boat Race at Hollingworth Lake.

Springhill’s running costs are £8,200 per day with sponsored events like this one enabling the Hospice to offer palliative care to the community free of charge. The Hospice give palliative and respite care on the 16 bed ward and in the day hospice unit on Broad Lane in Rochdale.
