GMP prepare for Parklife Weekender

Date published: 04 June 2015

Greater Manchester Police are into their final preparations for a major weekend of music in the city.

On Saturday 6 June and Sunday 7 June 2015, Heaton Park will play host to the Parklife Weekender, with music lovers from far and wide expected to make the journey to Manchester.

Chief Inspector Gary Simpson said: “Over both days we are expecting tens of thousands of visitors to come to Heaton Park to be part of this major music festival.

“On top of this, The Courteeners are doing a gig at Heaton Park on the Friday evening, so it will be a busy weekend and a brilliant opportunity to showcase Greater Manchester."

“GMP is extremely experienced at policing large-scale events and we have been working very closely with a number of councils, the event organisers and other emergency responders to ensure that festival-goers are safe and enjoy their weekend.

“I would also like to remind festival-goers about the dangers of legal highs. They are a group of drugs that are not yet illegal, but just because they are legal doesn’t⿿t mean they are safe.

“I urge anybody considering taking legal-highs, or any other illegal drugs, to consider the danger they pose; you could be playing Russian Roulette with your life.”

“People will need to be aware that both public transport and the roads are likely to be extremely busy and to anticipate this when planning their journeys to and from the event.

“Please park sensibly, be aware of your surroundings and keep yourself and valuables safe, particularly your bags and mobile phones.”
