Work to install new stone flags at Heywood Memorial Gardens starts this week.

The painted flags, carved by Heywood Master Stonemason Harry Simpson, of Urban Stone, are part of a series of recent additions to the gardens.

The four new stone carvings are of union, red, white and Royal Air Force ensign flags.

Work at the Memorial Gardens has been funded by Heywood Township with an allocation of £15,000 plus £11,000 funding from the Heywood War Memorial Trust.

Council Lead Member for the Armed Forces, Councillor Alan McCarthy, said: “The four stone flags will be a fitting addition to the Heywood Memorial Gardens, and they further demonstrate our commitment to the armed forces, and also to ensuring that the great sacrifices made by the few for the many never gets forgotten.”
