Hundreds step out in Queen's Park to raise funds for the Stroke Association

Date published: 30 May 2015

Hundreds of local residents stepped out for stroke on Saturday 23 May when they took part in the Stroke Association’s Step out for Stroke event, to raise more than £780 in vital funds for the charity.

The fundraising walk, in Queens Park, Heywood, took place during Action on Stroke Month, when the Stroke Association aims to promote stroke awareness and prevention as well as raise vital funds for the charity.

The event was supported by Link4Life in Rochdale who provided a warm up for participants, while the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Surinder Biant, officially opened the walk.

Players from the Stroke Association’s walking football team also gave a demonstration and Sweet Harmonics entertained the attendees throughout the day. Guests were also treated to a burlesque performance from Elaine Stott and Friends.

Joanne Mundey, Communication Support Coordinator at the Stroke Association, said: “Step out for Stroke celebrates the achievements of stroke survivors as they walk alongside their friends and family, all while helping to raise vital funds for the Stroke Association. Each walk is wheelchair accessible and suitable for any level of walking ability. Participants can walk at their own pace, in their own time. Ultimately, Step out for Stroke celebrates the brave steps in a stroke survivor’s recovery.

“We’re very grateful to everyone who came along to show their support on Saturday, including the Mayor of Rochdale and our many entertainers. People were full of smiles and a great day was had by all.”
