Wardle Academy Youth Band presented with citation for services to music

Wardle Academy Youth Band have been presented with a citation for services to music by Mayor of Rochdale, Surinder Biant.
The award follows their achievement in becoming Youth Brass Band Champions of Great Britain and Europe at the beginning of May.
Mayor Biant said: “Wardle Academy’s Youth Band are a group of young musicians who have achieved a tremendous amount this year. They are fantastic ambassadors for the borough of Rochdale and a credit to Wardle Academy.
"It was a great pleasure to recognise the band on behalf of the council and after listening to them perform.
"I have to say I don’t think they’re finished collecting trophies just yet.”
Upon receiving the citation, Councillor Janet Emsley, Director of Performing Arts at Wardle Academy, said: “This is such a fantastic group of young people who have done us very proud.”
The band was described as a “credit to the borough” and a “credit to Wardle Academy”.
To be crowned champions of Great Britain and Europe, Wardle Academy Youth band beat off bands from Germany, Scotland, Norway and Lithuania.
