Inspector Niall Pawson said: “Our priorities remain with victims of domestic abuse by offering reassurance and assistance ensuring they receive the best care and support.

"We now have a small team dedicated to public sector reform which involves public sector agencies working together in order to identify the individuals with the most need, then allocating the most suitable service to deal with the persons/families to ensure that they are getting the best possible support from the most relevant agencies.

"Due to the spike in burglaries in recent weeks especially around the Kirkholt and Castleton area, we have made these areas a priority and worked with partner agencies which has resulted in a significant reduction in burglaries this week.

"However, we are still asking that people check their property has sufficient security. It has also been brought to our attention about the increase of anti-social behaviour in the Kingsway area and Hare Hill Park. We are aware that Hare Hill Park is a problem area for anti-social behaviour during the summer months and we plan to make this a priority.”

"In relation to the drop of burglaries, this was achieved by officers using their initiative and suggesting ideas to what communities could benefit from. A good example would be the three street surgeries NBO Farmer and PCSO Dawson set up in the Castleton area.

"The outcome was positive as the community gained confidence from the crime prevention advice given and the ability to meet and ask questions to their local officers. Such actions are recognised and valued as PCSO Mir learnt when he received a letter of thanks from the public after reassuring them after their burglary along with Sgt MacDiarmid, PSCO Holland and PCSO Dewhurst who received a letter stating “the team are impressive and obviously committed”.

"Your local officers and PCSOs have been focusing on the anti-social behaviour caused at Hare Hill Park by undertaking thorough checks on their routine patrol and dealing with any incidents at the time. In addition to this a team working on Operation Rockport will also be giving some attention to this area especially on weekend evenings in an attempt to discourage bad behaviour.

"As part of Mental Health Awareness Week (11-18 May), staff and officers took part in training to better understand the issues faced by sufferers.

"One in four people will be affected by mental health in their lifetime, so by working with organisations such as Mind Charity we can support sufferers and provide them with the most appropriate care.
