Going green for Springhill Hospice

Date published: 15 May 2015

Rochdale turned green today (Friday 15 May) to raise money for Springhill Hospice.

Staff from Number One Riverside also dressed in green and sold cakes and badges for the day.

Rochdale Cricket Club turned their kit green for the occasion. The team was sponsored by Recruitment Solutions and hopes to raise as much money as possible for the Hospice by auctioning off a shirt.

The Springhill Hospice charity shop on Yorkshire Street in Rochdale Town Centre supported the fundraising by turning one of their windows green with a green display.

Specsavers in Rochdale Town Centre provided an arch of green balloons for customers to pass through as they entered the shop and were selling a variety of cakes to raise funds.

The Yorkshire Bank got involved with the fun with staff dressing in green. Money was raised from a cask sale, raffle and from selling Hospice merchandise.

Rochdale Man of the Year 2015, Harry Bell went the extra mile for the day and dyed his hair green. Harry and his company H Bell and Sons are supporters of the Hospice and often raise money for them.

Throughout the day local schools were also turning green. Lowerplace Primary School turned green with students dressing in green and Bury Grammar School also got involved with the fundraising day.

The Baum sold a special ‘Go Green’ beer and green cakes as well as holding a tombola throughout the day and The Healey Pub sold surprise green cocktails and green cupcakes to customers.

Staff from PDS UK Door and Window in Littleborough dressed in green clothes and held a cake sale throughout the day. Staff also played Where’s Springy to raise money.

This is the second time that the borough has turned green for Springhill Hospice. The inaugural Go Green Day raised £11,000.

All money raised by go green activities will go to Springhill Hospice to help them continue. It currently costs £3m a year to keep the doors of the Hospice open so donations and fundraising efforts are greatly appreciated.
