Liz McInnes completed Great Manchester Run

Date published: 13 May 2015

After a long election campaign, most people are eager to put their feet up and have a rest. Liz McInnes, Labour MP for Heywood and Middleton, decided she’d rather run ten kilometres when joining 40,000 other runners on the Portland Street start line of the Great Manchester Run.

Ms McInnes was running to raise money for the Angel Project Community Café in Middleton which she visited in January.

She said: “I was pleased to be able to help the Angel Project which does such great work for the people of Langley and Middleton. The café, as well as being a place for great food and good conversation, has been used as a meeting place for support groups for mental illness, addictions, war veterans, and others. The project has helped these organisations develop wider support networks in the community.

“I was also pleased to finish in a time of 1 hour and 8 minutes, especially so close to the election with very little time for any proper training. I’d like to congratulate all my fellow runners who turned out for a brilliant occasion and will raise many thousands of pounds for various causes.”

Liz McInnes was re-elected on Thursday with a majority of 5,299.
