Peter Gurney wins name the baby donkey competition

Date published: 12 May 2015

Peter Gurney has been named the winner of the Mayor of Rochdale’s ‘Name the Baby Donkey’ competition.

My Gurney submitted the name 'Pebbles' and was drawn as the winner last week having been picked at random from all of the names entered. The draw was witnessed by Mayoress Beverley Place and staff from the Civic and Ceremonials office.

Mr Gurney has been invited to meet Pebbles with his two young sons at the Mayor’s farm.

The Gurney family will have their photograph taken with Pebbles and will also revive a box of chocolates and a donkey figurine, donated by Lydia Berry.

The competition raised over £200 for the Mayor’s chosen charities: Springhill Hospice, The Rochdale Children’s Home and Youth Link.

Mayor Carol Wardle said: “I would like to thank everyone who took part and suggested some very inventive names.”
