Milnrow Library upstairs room open for use

Date published: 12 May 2015

After a three year campaign by local residents and councillors, the upstairs room in Milnrow Library is due to be re-opened to the public at the end of May.

It is understood that all that is left to do in the room is satisfy fire regulations and building control limits to numbers allowed in the room at any one time.

It is hoped that the room will be used as a study space for agencies to meet with their clients as well as being available to community groups outside of the hours used by agencies.

Councillor Allen Brett said: “It seems a three year campaign to bring the upstairs of Milnrow Library back into public use is almost there.

“There are already several potential users but anyone interested should contact the ward councillors or Tracey Knight in the Pennines Township Office.”

Julian Massel, Head of Customers and Corporate Services at Rochdale Council, said: “The upstairs room in Milnrow Library will be used as an extension to the library during opening hours – for example as an extra study space or a space for agencies to meet their clients.

“The space will be also available to community groups outside of these hours. We expect this new space will be open to the public by the end of May.”
