Letter from Parliament - Liz McInnes MP

Date published: 11 May 2015

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the voters of Heywood, Middleton, Castleton, Norden and Bamford for returning me as your MP. I’m particularly pleased to have increased my majority and see that as an endorsement of the work I’ve been doing since being first elected in the by-election of last year.

After a six-week election campaign spent on doorsteps around the constituency, meeting folk, listening to concerns and debating issues, I’m raring to get going representing you all for the next five years and being a strong voice for everyone in my constituency, and I know our councillors are thinking the same thing.

I’d like to extend my congratulations to the eight councillors who were elected last week and offer my commiserations to Ruth Yasmeen and Kewal Kataria.

With a Tory government in power, my focus will be on making sure there are secure jobs that pay a good wage available in Heywood and Middleton, that we protect our medical and social care resources, schools and further and higher education access, and that we strengthen our transport links with the region and the rest of the country.

My regular surgeries will resume shortly and I will endeavour to remain approachable and accountable to all my constituents, whether you voted for me or not.

I always felt that in my few months in Parliament that it was almost a trial period for both me and the voters and I'm pleased and immensely proud that so many of you voted for me to remain.

My thanks to you all.
