Colin Flint donates an autograph book with Busby Babes signatures

Date published: 06 May 2015

Life long Manchester United supporter, Colin Flint has donated an autograph book containing, amongst other things, the signatures of eight of the Busby Babes.

In 1957, the now septuagenarian Colin and his friend Joe Sparks, were fortunate enough to be invited to tour United's ground, they took with them their autograph books, just in case.

Disappointingly they didn't see any of their idols, however, the person showing them around the stadium kindly agreed to keep the books, collect some signatures for them and forward them on at a later date.

The boys were thrilled when they received the books back, full of signatures of the football stars.

Having treasured the book for so many years, Colin decided to put it's contents to good use and has donated the autograph book, via his colleague and Hospice trustee, Ken Davies MBE, to Springhill Hospice.

Lillie Winterbottom, Community Fundraiser, said: "We're thrilled that Colin has very generously donated such an amazing piece of history, one which has such a lovely story attached. We're hoping to find an auction house locally to have the book appraised and then auctioned with all the proceeds being donated to Springhill. We can't thank Colin enough for his amazing donation."
