Two arrested after man found dead at a house in Middleton

Date published: 05 May 2015

Two men have been arrested after a 40-year-old man was found dead at a house on Cheap Side in Middleton.

The man had been discharged from hospital on Friday 1 May 2015 after he had been treated for injuries he sustained during a suspected assault on 10 April 2015 at a house in Rochdale.

Shortly after 9.25am on Monday 4 May 2015, police were called by to the house by paramedics; officers attended and found the body of the 40-year-old man.

A Home Office Post Mortem has concluded there is a possibility the man's death is linked to the injuries he sustained on 10 April and an investigation is now underway.

Last night, police arrested a 39-year-old man in the Rochdale area on suspicion of murder and a 42-year-old man was arrested in the Middleton area on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both remain in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Jones, from GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "We are providing support to this man's family at this difficult time and will provide updates to the public when we have more information that we can share.

"An investigation was already underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding how this man came to suffer these injuries several weeks ago and we have now arrested two men in connection with these enquiries who will be questioned by detectives today.

"If anyone knows anything they think may assist our investigation, please contact the Major Incident Team on 101 or phone Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
