REAG and Friends of Broadfield Park clean Ann Street

Date published: 04 May 2015

Members of the Rochdale Environmental Action Group (REAG) and the Friends of Broadfield Park cleaned the piece of land adjacent to the Asia Restaurant on Ann Street, near St John Primary School.

Ten REAG members, two members of the Friends of Broadfield Park, two youths and an officer of Rochdale Borough Council spent two hours cleaning.

Outside and inside the fence on Milk Street there were number of bags with rotten and smelly food left there for days and weeks and are health hazard to the residents and school children and road users, attracting rats and posing a risk to birds, school children, their parents and other road users.

REAG has been drawing attention to such open spaces where flytipping and littering is common.

Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, Secretary, said: "REAG has been drawing the attention of Rochdale Borough Council to such places and asking for enforcement of environmental law in the Borough. If immediate action is not taken, littering will continue to happen. REAG sincerely hopes to see action as soon as possible.”
