Date published: 29 April 2015

A man is in a serious condition after being attacked with a meat cleaver in his own home on Sunday 26 April.

Shortly before 1.20pm on Sunday the victim, a 52-year-old man, was at home on Evesham Road in Middleton when a man knocked on his door.

He spoke to the man and let him in, but once inside he became aggressive and threatened the victim.

The offender then went into the kitchen, picked up a meat cleaver and used it to threaten the victim before hitting him on the head and hand with it and fleeing in a car.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Lee Hopwood of Rochdale division said: “This was a horrific attack in which a man was attacked with a meat cleaver'.

“The victim sustained serious injuries and is still in a serious but stable condition.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
