Year 9 Football Team
The Year 9 Football Team made their way into the Rochdale Schools Cup Final after defeating St Cuthbert’s 4-2. The team all worked hard to come back from a two goal deficit to earn their place in the Final. Star performers were Hakeem Gbajabiamila (4 goals), Matthew Greenwood (captain’s performance) and Lewis Hamer (his best performance of the season).
A big thank you to the staff that gave their support to the players and a special thanks to Mr Noon for refereeing the match. Well done to: Babar Rashid, Lewis Hamer, Matthew Greenwood, Jack Turner, Jordan Parkhill, Dayne Stewart, Bailey Turner, Deen Imran, Tom Tobias, Abdul Akram, Hakeem Gbajabiamila, Hayden Lewis and Liam Hicks. We will update you on the result from the Final in the next column. Thank you to Mr Bardsley and Mr Meah who have worked hard training the team all year.
Year 7 Boys’ Football Team
The Year 7 Boys’ Football Team recently played Falinge Park and won 7-1. The goals were shared around between Maxx Wright and Dion Parker-Minchin. Oulder Hill were without three key players but a fantastic debut from Adam Ali helped ease the loss of these players. Man of the match was Dion Parker-Minchin for some fantastic wing play.
The team were as follows: Joe Oldham, Adam Ali, Will Strudwick, Chris Carney, Ethan Steel, Dylan Stott, Maxx Wright, Dion Parker-Minchin and Ryan Marshall. Congratulations to all involved, and thank you to Mr Pickles for his excellent work with the Year 7 footballers.
Dance Showcase
Thursday 7 May sees the annual Dance Showcase starting at 7:00pm in the Gracie Fields Theatre. Tickets are on sale from the school reception, and are priced at £3 for Adults and £2 for Concessions. Please come and along and show your support for our talented students and staff, who have been working hard to produce this event.
“Drop Everything and Read”
Our next “Drop Everything and Read” (DEAR) session takes place during afternoon tutorial on Thursday 7 May. The aim of DEAR is to create a culture of reading for pleasure and to eradicate the stigma attached to reading. Students and staff will be taking part, and they will be encouraged to read from a variety of materials including books, newspapers and magazines.
The History department are leading the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of VE Day with various activities planned for Key Stage 3 students.
Students undertaking the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award will be undertaking their practice expedition on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May. More details are available from Mrs McCarry, Duke of Edinburgh Co-ordinator. We hope all involved are prepared for their adventure, and that the weather is kind to them.
School will be closed to students on Monday 4 May, due to the Early May Bank Holiday. School will reopen as normal on Tuesday 5 May.
