Easter time revision classes at Whitworth Community High School saw more than 80 of the 96 GCSE students attending at least one session in the holiday.
In total 13 different GCSE subjects had additional revision classes and teachers were delighted with the commitment shown by students who came into school over the holiday.
Headteacher Gill Middlemas said: “We have had very positive feedback regarding the additional support provided by staff - and the impact this has had on students’ confidence and preparation.’’
Besides the extra holiday study, the school has also introduced additional lessons every Wednesday.
Mrs Middlemas said: “Students have responded magnificently to this new initiative and have so far welcomed having a chunk of time to complete Music compositions, finalise Performing Arts and Drama performances, focus on Art and Textiles or Resistant Materials coursework.
“Each Wednesday, different subjects take priority and individual students are advised in advance which subject to attend that day. This is, of course, in addition to the sessions subjects that are already running after school during the rest of the week.”
Many students said the extra lessons had helped them better understand the core English literature texts, another said they felt more confident with their maths skills and more prepared for their final exams.
