Heywood Uniformed Groups St George’s Parade

Hundreds of members of uniformed groups including Scouts, Brownies and Rainbows, gathered in the glorious sunshine this afternoon (Sunday 26 April) for their St George’s Parade.

Led by Cadishead Band, the groups set off from Harwood Park Primary School at around 2:15pm, then paraded through the town witnessed by local residents who lined the streets.

The groups paraded to St Luke’s Church for a church service, after which the parade re-assembled and made its way back through Heywood.

Baden-Powell chose Saint George to be the Patron Saint of The Scout Association. He felt that the Saint George of legend set a good example of faith, courage and perseverance for future generations.

St George's Day is celebrated on the 23 April, and most districts hold some form of celebration on the nearest Sunday.
