Waheed Ahmed, the son of Labour councillor, Shakil Ahmed, was held in Turkey on suspicion of trying to enter Syria illegally.

He was flown from Dalaman into Birmingham, where he was arrested by Greater Manchester Police.

A 31-year-old man in the Rochdale area was arrested on Monday (13 April) for the same offence.

Officers are working to ensure the safe return of eight other people to the U.K.
