Waheed Ahmed arrested for Preparation or Instigation of acts of Terrorism

A 21-year-old man was arrested at Birmingham Airport on suspicion of CPI Section 40 (1) (b) TACT 2000 (Commission, Preparation or Instigation of acts of Terrorism) in the early hours of Tuesday (14 April).
Waheed Ahmed, the son of Labour councillor, Shakil Ahmed, was held in Turkey on suspicion of trying to enter Syria illegally.
He was detained along with eight other Britons in Hatay near the Syrian border on 1 April. He has now returned to the UK after being deported from Turkey.
He was flown from Dalaman into Birmingham, where he was arrested by Greater Manchester Police.
A 31-year-old man in the Rochdale area was arrested on Monday (13 April) for the same offence.
Officers are working to ensure the safe return of eight other people to the U.K.
