Rochdale to celebrate World Book Night

Date published: 13 April 2015

Rochdale will celebrate World Book Night 2015 with a special event at Touchstones Arts and Heritage Centre later this month.

On Thursday 23 April the multi award winning playwright Michael Stewart will take part in ‘An Evening With’ event, talking about his latest novel Cafe Assassin, discussing its themes of friendship, betrayal and crime. His debut novel, King Crow, won The Guardian’s ‘Not the Booker Prize’ and in 2012 was selected as a World Book Night recommended read. He has written several full length stage plays, one of which, Karry Owky, was joint winner of the King's Cross Award for New Writing, as well as varied work in radio and television.

During the event he’ll also be signing copies of his books and complimentary refreshments will be served.

Punam Ramchurn, Director of Rochdale Literature Festival, said: “We are very lucky to have published author and playwright Michael Stewart joining us for World Book Night. It will be an inspiring and entertaining evening."

World Book Night is an annual celebration of reading and books that sees volunteers give out hundreds of thousands of books in their communities to share their love of reading with people who don’t read regularly or own books. The evening is arranged by Rochdale Central Library in conjunction with The Reading Agency, a national charity that inspires people to become confident and enthusiastic readers.

‘World Book Night – an evening with Michael Stewart’ is at Touchstones on Thursday 23 April at 6.30pm. Tickets (£2).
