Man suffers head injury and fractured leg after being hit by a car on the M62

Date published: 13 April 2015

A 40-year-old man has had to have surgery after he was taken to hospital with a fractured leg and head injuries, following an incident on the M62 motorway on Sunday (12 April) morning.

The police and ambulance service were called to the exit of the slip road at Junction 20 on the M62 Westbound, just after 2am, to reports that a man had been hit in the outside lane after walking along the motorway.

Despite being hit by a car, the man was fully conscious and was taken to Salford Royal, Hope Hospital for treatment.

At the time of the incident, the motorway was closed for a period of time with a diversion in place.

Lane three of the motorway was then reopened shortly after 3am with an investigation completed at 5:36am. Lanes one and two were then reopened by Highways England.

It is currently unknown why the man was in the road at the time of the incident.
