Opinion Poll: Danczuk in pole position but McInnes has a fight on her hands

Date published: 13 April 2015

With the General Election just weeks away Rochdale Online hit the streets to ask the residents of the borough if they intend to vote and if so who they intend to vote for.

In Rochdale constituency, Labour's Simon Danczuk has a substantial lead over Azi Ahmed (the Conservative candidate) in second place. Mr Danczuk is clearly benefitting from the large number of candidates splitting the opposition. There is still a good number of voters undecided, and a smaller number who preferred not to say who they will vote for, but it is very hard to see the Conservatives gaining enough of those votes to beat Mr Danczuk.

In Heywood & Middleton constituency, Liz McInnes is in front but John Bickley (UKIP) and Iain Gartside (Conservative) are not so far behind that Ms McInnes is in an unassailable lead, especially with a large number of voters as yet undecided and a good number who preferred not to say how they will vote. It is likely Mr Bickley (UKIP) will remain stronger opposition than Mr Gartside (Conservative) but if Mr Bickley is to take the seat he will need to persuade the majority of those undecided to vote UKIP, something Labour will be campaigning hard to prevent.
