The Baum wins CAMRA award

Date published: 11 April 2015

The Baum has won the CAMRA award for Rochdale, Oldham and Bury and has been named as one of Greater Manchester’s best pubs in the region.

Heidi Crompton, landlady of The Baum, said: “We are delighted to get this award. It was well-deserved and reflective of all the hard work of the staff. All of our staff are fully-trained so winning this award represented all of the effort we’ve made.

“Our ales are ever-changing, we always have two local ales as well as a selection of ales from far and wide so our customers are able to have variety of different tastes and maybe try something new they haven’t had before.”

The Baum opened in the early 1980s. Heidi’s husband, Simon Crompton began working there around 20 years ago, and went from part-time barman, to bar manager, to landlord and finally became its owner in 2005.

Together, they have turned the pub into the paradise for ale-lovers it is now, and have also claimed the title of Greater Manchester Pub of the year in 2012 as well as winning National Pub of the Year in 2013.

CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, is an independent establishment with just under 170,000 members who campaign for real ale, community pubs and consumer rights voluntarily.
