College teams score success

Date published: 09 April 2015

Two Hopwood Hall College football teams, set up for students with disabilities, have competed in their first competitive tournament and returned victorious.

The Hopwood Hall Rangers, as they are known at the College, were split into two teams (HHR Red and HHR Green) to compete in the Pan Disability Tournament held at the University of Cumbria.

Although the Hopwood Hall Rangers Red team drew their first two games, they then went on to win the next three games, giving them 11 points and a league win.

The Hopwood Hall Rangers Green team won all of their five games.

Impressively neither team conceded a goal throughout the tournament.

All the players’ hard work and team spirit shone throughout the tournament. The event showed that they have what it takes to be successful teams and they have now also been nominated to represent Lancashire Football Association (FA) in the FA People’s Cup to be held in Manchester in May. The People’s Cup will see up to 14,000 teams and over 100,000 players having the chance to compete.

Tom Conroy, Football Development Officer at Hopwood Hall College, said: “Every week our players show great enthusiasm to continue to improve playing the game and they enjoy it.

"I was very proud to watch them play their first competitive games and even more proud to watch them receive winning trophies. Everyone at Hopwood Hall College is looking forward to seeing them progress and enter more tournaments in the future too.”
