What to do with the children during the fortnight half term holiday?

Date published: 03 April 2015

Don’t worry, here at Rochdale Online we’ve compiled a list of boredom busters that won’t have you digging too deep into your pocket.

Good Friday at Hollingworth Lake Visitors Centre they are running a Guided Health Walk at 1pm where all are welcome. With an entry fee of £3, it’s a fun day out for families, and dogs, who love a nice long walk.

On Saturday 4 April there will be an Easter Fayre at Sudden and Brimrod Community Centre from 1pm until 4pm.

There is an Easter egg hunt called Easter Eggstravaganza at Middleton Gardens from 10am until 3pm.

Another Easter Eggstravaganza will be held at St Peter’s Church in Newbold from 2pm until 3.30pm.

The Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre is holding a Fabulous Fashion Show from 10am, featuring catwalk shows, make up booths and hair and style advisers for a trendy family.

All events are free entry and promise to be fun for all the family.

Easter Sunday, an Egg Trail will be held at Hollingworth Lake Visitor Centre from 1.30pm until 3.30pm. There’s only limited places so advance booking is required, but it is a fun day for children and all the family.

There will be face painting, balloon modelling, and a visit from the Easter bunny for children at the Elephant and Castle at 2pm, with free entry.

For just 50p per child, St Edmund’s Church are hosting Easter Fun, filled with seasonal activities such as the Great Easter Egg Decoration Competition and The Albert Hudson Royds Fact Finding Trail.

If you prefer a different way to celebrate Easter with the children, you could take them to a CBBs puppet show at Bo-Jangles Theatre in Middleton. The entry fee is £5, with each child getting a small Easter egg each.

Other fun places to take the children with free entry include beautiful parks such as Springfield Park, Queen’s Park and Healey Dell Nature Reserve - you could have a day out exploring and having a family picnic. Or perhaps, you’d prefer a stroll around Hollingworth Lake or a visit to Touchstones.

The annual Hollingworth Lake Easter Fun Fair is from Thursday 2 April until Sunday 12 April.

In the second week of the half term holiday, Touchstones Heritage Gallery holds Talking Heads, another free event, an exhibition where portraits are brought to life with hands-on activities for children.

For those of you who don’t mind splashing out a little, there are places in Rochdale where the kids can play. The Wheatsheaf hosts Ready Steady Colour, for families with 3 to 8 year olds on Wednesday 8 April until Sunday 12 April. Tickets are £4 for children and £5 for adults.

There’s always free things to do, and things that don’t cost too much, to find them just take a look in the Rochdale Online Evenets Diary:
