Rochdale Environmental Action Group plan ahead

Date published: 03 April 2015

Rochdale Environmental Action Group believe that if the people of Rochdale take responsibility for improving the environment in their respective areas, the council can save a lot of money which can then be used on other useful projects.

Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, Secretary of REAG, said: "Rochdale is a beautiful town with its natural green environment. Generally, people care about the environment and related issues.

“A small number of people do the fly tipping or dumping. Such people need education and repeated defiance requires enforcement.

"Keeping the area around a business clean should be included in a planning application.

“In order to achieve positive results, people need to be fully engaged. We intend to invite all national, regional and local authorities, organisations, agencies and key people to share their skills, knowledge and resources to help us to improve the environment of the Borough of Rochdale. We welcome any suggestions and advice in this respect.

“We are thankful to the Environment Services, officers and Councillors of Rochdale Borough Council for their continued support and we hope to continue to have it in future.”

REAG was set up in June 2012 and since then the group have cleaned the streets of Rochdale every Saturday, have won a Rochdale Diversity award for Faith and Community in 2013 and were the runners up in the National Keep Britain Tidy awards.
