Olympian Sophie Cox helps students stay safe

Date published: 02 April 2015

A ‘Stay Safe Week’ for students encompassing all aspects of personal safety, including a series of self-defence classes run by Olympic judo star, Sophie Cox, helped Hopwood Hall College students understand the importance of all types of safety.

Over 100 students joined in Sophie’s hour long classes. Each class was designed to teach them how to be more aware of their own personal safety as well as some key self-defence moves.

Sophie said: “The students were very responsive and I feel I helped raise awareness of some important safety issues, as well as having fun with some techniques! It's nice to have the opportunity to work within the local community in this way.”

Farah Rehman, College Sports Maker, added: “Stay Safe Week is such an important week at the College. This year it was great to be able to offer the students a variety of activities and they really enjoyed working with Sophie Cox. They learnt a lot of new skills which is great.”
