Hurstead House Nursing Home has ban on taking residents lifted

Date published: 01 April 2015

Hurstead House Nursing Home, on Halifax Road, has had its ban of taking in new residents lifted.

The home received a formal warning from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in September last year, after failing to meet national standards.

Following this, Rochdale Council banned the home from taking in new residents until improvements were made.

Now, the ban has been lifted following an inspection in November last year.

In a report published by the CQC, it says: “On the inspection we found that the provider had made significant improvements to the service. This means that all legal requirements we reviewed were met, including those outstanding from our previous inspection.”

Dianne David, Assistant Director of Adult Care at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “We lifted the suspension on new referrals to Hurstead House in December last year. During the period of temporary suspension, which started in July 2014, the home worked with us to address the issues leading to this suspension, primarily cleanliness and infection control and the lack of a registered manager.

“Both of these issues have now been resolved. The home now undertakes weekly checks on a range of disciplines including hand hygiene, cleaning equipment, waste management and management of infections. We can also confirm that Hurstead House now has a registered manager in place. We will continue to monitor this home on a regular basis to ensure that it maintains the standards it has reached over a sustained period of time.”

The home has now been given an overall rating of ‘good’ but still requires improvement in areas such as the management of medicines. Inspectors also recommended that the home was made more suitable for residents with dementia.
