Homes approved for former Littleborough mill site
Date published: 26 March 2015
Rochdale Council has given the go ahead for 43 homes to be built at the site of the former Frankfort Mill on Halifax Road, Littleborough, despite losing out on £70,000 worth of ‘planning gain’ money.
The development, which was put forward by Brierstone Properties, will see 29 houses and 14 apartments built in a three storey block.
It is understood that the scheme will be a mixture of two, three, four and five bedroom properties.
Plans were first passed in 2010 on the condition that the firm paid a £95,000 section 106 contribution towards improving open spaces in the borough.
Despite this agreement, the company has now said that the amount of money it was expected to pay was too high to make the development viable in the
current financial climate.
The company asked to make a £25,000 contribution instead.
Councillors passed the plans with a condition that the stone facing of the properties be made visible from Halifax Road.
