Alkrington Village Spring Fair

Date published: 22 March 2015

Members of the local community and local businesses from across Middleton came together today (Sunday 22 March) for the Alkrington Village Spring Fair.

Held at Alkrington Community Centre, the fair was a way for local businesses to get together and make themselves known to the local community a bit more.

Organiser Jane Stuckey said: “This fair started because I was going to fairs and having stalls to promote my business, but they were a little few and far between, so I decided to do one myself and invite businesses to come along.”

Stalls at the fair included hand-crafted goods, cards, cosmetics, jewellery and confectionery.

Jane added: “It has gone really well. I am really pleased.”

The adult care centre next door to the community centre also got involved with the fair.

Karen Lever, from the Adult Care Moving On Service, said: “It started off at the Christmas fair when I asked Jane if I could make teas and coffees and things and she said yes.

“Then this year, she asked if we wanted some stalls, so we did that and got involved. It has been really good and has been really busy all day.”

Money raised from the adult care centre will go towards a community garden that they plan to get up and running.

Karen added: “The garden will cost around £20,000 all together so whatever we can raise from events like this will really help.”
