The sun shone on Springhill Hospice annual spring fair today (Sunday 22 March).

Held in the grounds of the hospice, to raise vital funds, stalls including bric-a-brac, home bake, toys and books were on offer to the many in attendance.

Activities for children included mini golf, hook-a-duck and play your cards right.

Melanie Caffrey, from Springhill Hospice, said: “Today has been absolutely marvellous. The sun was shining and there were plenty of people coming along - and hopefully lost of money raised for the hospice.”

It costs nearly £3m a year to keep the doors of Springhill Hospice open. The Hospice, which provides palliative end of life care, day facilities, Hospice at Home and bereavement counselling services to the people of Rochdale and the surrounding areas, currently receives a third of its running costs from the NHS.

The outstanding £2m has to come directly from donations, legacies, third party fund raising events and indirectly from people donating or buying items from the Springhill Hospice charity shops across the borough.
