Rochdale Connections Trust celebrate their work over the past year

Date published: 21 March 2015

Mayor Carol Wardle, Mayoress Beverley Place and Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk celebrated the work of Rochdale Connections Trust (RCT) on Friday (20 March).

Certificates were presented to those who have completed courses with the trust over the past year and a piece of artwork from the Royal Exchange was officially presented to the trust by the Mayor and Mayoress.

Kathy Thomas, Chief Executive of RCT, said: “Today is really about celebrating the work we have done over the past year and celebrating those who have successfully completed courses with us.”

Certificates were presented to a number of people for a variety of things. Young people were also awarded with certificates for completing training courses.

Mr Danczuk praised the work of RCT and said: “The work done by the connections trust is fantastic and in particular, the work done with families is fantastic. I know that the work done with families is crucial because it stops the issues from reoccurring. I would like to say thank you for the work that the trust does because it is a complete success.”

Bernie Dearden, who runs a coffee morning at RCT, said: “Coming here has done me wonders. This place brought out my confidence and really helped me with that. It really has done wonders. This place needs to continue because people like me need it.”

Bev Howarth, a Social Care Worker art Rochdale Council, also praised the trust and their work. She said: “I can’t thank RCT enough and the work that they do. If I ever speak to someone and tell them to come here then they are always helpful and say ‘yes we’ll go and see them.’ There are never any referrals or long waiting lists. It just shows that if people work with us and the trust, we can help.”

The aim of the RCT is to connect young people with adults who could get them into education and training and most importantly to raise their confidence and self-esteem levels.
