Police appeal for witnesses following serious assault

Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a man was assaulted in Littleborough.
A 36-year-old man was walking alone through Littleborough centre, near to the Falcon Hotel, at around 11.40pm on Friday 20 February, when he unintentionally bumped into a man as they passed each other. After a verbal argument the man began to hit the victim several times to the face causing him to fall to the floor, where he was then struck a further four to six times.
The offender is described as white, around 5ft 5in tall, with shaved dark hair and heavy build. He was wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt. He left the scene in a taxi towards Rochdale.
The victim was taken to Royal Oldham Hospital for treatment for a number of serious injuries.
Investigating officers would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area at the time, or anyone who may have seen a person matching the description. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Rochdale East office on 0161 856 8549 alternatively call 101.
