Date published: 16 March 2015
A beacon will be lit in Rochdale on Friday 8 May to commemorate Victory in Europe (VE) Day.
On what will be the 70th anniversary of VE day, at the going down of the sun on Friday 8 May the first beacon will be lit (the location has not yet been confirmed), followed by a chain of over 100 across the UK.
On 8 May 70 years ago, peace broke out and brought an end to nearly six years of war across Europe.
The lighting of the beacon will celebrate the lives of those who fought during that time and will commemorate the historic anniversary.
It is understood that the beacon will be lit at 9.30pm.
It is currently not yet known where the beacon will be located.
