Help, I haven’t bought mum anything for Mother's Day

Date published: 14 March 2015

It’s Mother’s Day tomorrow and as usual (I imagine I am not on my own) I haven’t bought mum anything.

The excuse of ‘sorry I’ve been busy’ or ‘I didn’t know what you wanted’ isn’t going to cut it, neither will a handmade card, it’s cute when you’re three but when you’re 23 it’s a give-away that you just forgot and the late night garage had run out of cards.

I did promise myself I wouldn’t do the predicable and easy option of chocolates and flowers.

I know I’ve got the luxury of picking something from the boutique and could gift wrap a blouse or top for her but she helped me choose the stock.

Now she did subtly hint at a face-lift (when I say subtly hinted I mean she tagged me in the picture on Facebook, whatsapped it to me and mentioned it repeatedly for a week).

If you’re in the same position as me there are a number of boutiques and beauty salons in the area with some great ideas and advice on the special gift for the woman that does the washing, cooking, cleaning and taxi-ing, with not too much complaining.

At Treat Yourself Boutique in Milnrow we’ve got some gorgeous one size jumpers and tops available in lots of different colours, but we’ve also re-stocked some fabulous accessories like bags, shoes, jewellery and beauty products that you can’t really go wrong with. Especially if she’s on the fussy side with clothes and every time you try and think of something to buy her you break out in a cold sweat.

Say flowers are your mums’ thing, try something a little different this year and check out the new floral stock by Motel, available at 25Ten Boutique in Littleborough. Kelly and Pearl also offer gift vouchers if you’re at a loose end (and it beats putting £20 in a card which you’ll probably eventually lend off her anyway).

Leading Ladies in Norden is stocking some really unique pieces like this blouse and blazer, great for casual and work wear which she could wear time and time again. By the way Danni congratulations on your first Mother’s Day, at least your boy has an excuse for not having bought a present yet, unlike me, what with him being a week old and everything.

Charlotte Duckworth based at Jamilla Paul's new salon, ‘The Experience’, in Littleborough, is offering two for one gel nails so you could get the two of you booked in, good excuse for some mother/daughter bonding, although if you’re a lad don’t panic and think you have to have a manicure, there’s the Adonis Bar next door where you can have a few drinks until she’s finished.

If you’re running short of time all boutiques offer local delivery too.

So there you have it, just a few ideas from me to you, to help you out of what could be a tricky situation on Sunday morning.
