Mouse in Lidl

Date published: 12 March 2015

A mouse was spotted running around Lidl on Spotland Road on Monday (9 March).

A customer shopping in the store saw the mouse and told an assistant. The assistant then dealt with the mouse and moved it outside.

Following this, the customer says the store assistant continued to serve customers without washing his hands.

It is understood that a complaint was then made to the manager.

Following the incident Lidl has had the store surveyed and found no futher evidence of internal mouse activity.

A spokesperson for Lidl said: “We take food safety and pest control very seriously and have extensive measures in place to ensure that our products are in the best possible condition for our customers. All of our stores and warehouses are visited regularly by experienced pest control specialists to ensure that measures are in place to prevent pest activity. Additionally, staff at all levels of the organisation receive thorough training to ensure that they are always vigilant and remain fully aware of the correct action to take should any pest activity be experienced.

“Following this incident, an external pest control specialist surveyed the store and no further evidence of internal mouse activity was found. The store staff have been reminded of the strict procedures held within our Food Safety Management System, which include the prevention of cross-contamination and the washing of hands whenever required.”
