Hack Off Cancer, an event in aid of Cancer Research UK has raised over £3,000.

Organised by fundraisers Kath and Andy O’Donnell from Littleborough, the event, which was a fun, sponsored horse event saw people from all over Greater Manchester and Yorkshire get together to raise money.

Held at Watergrove Reservoir on Sunday 8 March, the 54 horse riders involved got to explore the area, despite the terrible weather, with Heather Pomfrit, from
Dolly P’s on hand to serve breakfasts, hot drinks and food to those involved.

Jess Hyde raised £1,016.90 - the highest donation ever received at an event organised by Kath. Jess received a voucher, donated by Charles Owen for a riding hat for her efforts in raising the money.

Victoria Anderson was the second highest fundraiser having raised £426.59. For her efforts she received a Numnah, donated by Nags Rags.

Organiser Kath O’Donnell said: “The weather was awful but that didn't stop the horse community in showing their support against cancer! The weather did not dampen their spirits with many of the riders wearing pink to show their support.

“We would like to thank all who supported this event. Our main sponsors, Hird and Partners Veterinary Practice, the riders, all of our helpers who worked extremely hard in the horrendous conditions – they all had smiles on their faces, helping make the event such a great day. We also need to thank United Utilities for letting us use the reservoir.”

At the end of the ride, goody bags were handed out to those involved, which were happily received and complemented the end of a wet and soggy ride.

Donations for the goody bags and raffles held on the day were courtesy of, Pets Meds, Cavello, Naylors, Battles, Likit, Allen and Page, Dodson and Horrell, Dengie, Matchmakers, Mountain Horse, Toggie, Blue Chip, Spillers, Honey Chop, Protexin Equine and Amelia Knight.
