Bollards to be erected at Rochdale Market to deter motorcyclists

Poles between the market and adjacent car park
Rochdale Council is set to erect bollards around Rochdale Market to deter vehicles. The move comes after vehicles such as motorbikes have been witnessed being driven across the market.
Mark Widdup, Director of Economy and Environment at Rochdale Council said: “Driving is clearly not permitted on the market site. We will be erecting bollards in the next week to deter vehicles from doing this, and if we catch any motorcyclists riding across the area, we will pass their details onto the police.”
Rochdale Council installed 28 poles at a cost of £3,500.
At the time Mr Widdup said: “The wooden poles perform two functions - they provide a physical barrier to vehicles between the car park and the former black box site and to create a visual art feature.”
