Megan Edwards convicted after waste found dumped in Scowcroft Woods, Middleton
Date published: 09 March 2015
Megan Edwards, of Myrtle Road, whose waste was found dumped in Scowcroft Woods, Middleton has been convicted after a hearing at Bury and Rochdale Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that flytipped waste, including polystyrene packages and cardboard boxes, was found in Scowcroft Woods in March 2013.
The waste was traced back to Edwards who was found guilty of failing to ensure her waste was disposed of properly at the hearing on 3 March 2015. She was given an absolute discharge and ordered to pay £100 in costs.
Councillor Jacqui Beswick, Cabinet member for Environment at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “Ms Edwards was given ample opportunity to explain how her waste ended up in Scowcroft Woods, but she failed to respond to letters sent by council officers.
"Removing and disposing of flytipped waste costs Rochdale Borough Council hundreds of thousands a year. That is money which could be spent on other vital council services. We will continue to take action against anybody who fails to dispose of their rubbish properly.”
