A young woman has died following a fire in a flat in Tweedale Street in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The 23-year-old woman was rescued from the bedroom of the ground floor flat, which well alight when fire crews arrived, by fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus.
Station Manager Jon Crawley from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “They brought her outside where they performed CPR on her until North West Ambulance Service arrived.”
The woman was taken to hospital where she died.
A joint investigation between GMFRS and Greater Manchester Police has been carried out and the most likely cause of the fire is accidental by smoking materials.
