Pizza Hut apply to set up shop in Middleton

Date published: 06 March 2015

Pizza Hut has put a planning application in to Rochdale Council for a site located on Long Street, Middleton.

A spokesperson for Pizza Hut said: "We can confirm that we have applied for planning permission for a Middleton store. Whilst this is ongoing, we are unable to comment further."

The application has generated objections with many stating that another hot food takeaway is not needed in the area.

Colette Wagstaffe said: “These takeaway business people seem absolutely relentless in their apparent quest to take over every single shop in Middleton, many of whom don't even live in the town and yet local people are being denied business opportunities because of what is now becoming lack of suitable shop premises because of the amount of takeaways being allowed to open. It's not what most people in the town want more of.”

Lynn Etchells said: “There are over 50 off this type of food outlet, two already on the same road, so why the need for more? 58 Long Street is part of the conservation area of our wonderful historic town and also the much loved Golden Cluster of Buildings - one of these being opposite the proposed outlet while another three border it.

“Middleton is becoming a town of pound shops and takeaways and apart from extra litter these takeaways cause there are already problems with car parking so why add more?”

Joanne Pearce added: “Middleton already has a large number of takeaways within walking distance of this proposed site so therefore there is no need for another one to be allowed to open, particularly as this building is located within the town’s conservation area.”

It is currently unclear when a decision on the application will be made.
