Barney (African Grey parrot) and Amber (Amazon Yellow Nape) the parrots stolen from a house in Castleton
Two parrots worth £3,000 have been stolen from a house in Castleton.
On Thursday (19 February) offenders forced entry into the property and although they searched the whole house, the only items taken were the parrots.
One parrot is an Amazon Yellow Nape, which is an endangered species. She is called Amber and is six-years-old. She is green with yellow markings on the back of the neck and is 8-10 inches in height. Her ring number is AJM09V5 and is worth between £1,500 and £2,000.
Barney is an African Grey parrot and is also six-years-old. He is grey with a red tail. He is six inches in height, which is unusually small for an African Grey. His ring number is 50HP08V and his label ID is 780/9883. He is worth around £900.
During the burglary, the offenders left behind a number of valuable items which were moved but not taken. Police believe that the parrots may have been taken to order and the offenders may have been looking for the certificates and paperwork to accompany them.
Police are now asking that anyone with any information should contact them on 101 and reference 028775M/15.
