Lower Falinge Arts and Crafts Club

Date published: 21 February 2015

The children of Lower Falinge enjoyed an afternoon of arts and crafts  on Friday (20 February).

The club, which is run by Lower Falinge Activity Group, was setup by Andy Littlewood, chairman of the activity group.

Andy said: “When I first became involved with the activity group, I looked at ways of increasing the provision of activities for the estate’s children. Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) were already providing activities for the children and it was decided to target the school holidays, to help relieve the boredom (especially during bad weather). With the support of Khalida Crossley from RBH, in the summer of 2013, the activity group began the arts and crafts sessions, to enable the children to bring out the creativity within themselves.

“The children thoroughly enjoy their club and it is important for them to realise it is their club. We involve the children with the planning, as we ask them what they would like to do in future sessions.

“We are hoping to provide an increased number of activities this year for all the people of the estate. We have recently started a Drop-In session on Friday mornings between 10am – 1pm. This is for people to use the computers and telephone for job searching and contacting RBH and utility suppliers.

"We are also organising a couple of trips for adults and children in the next two months, one to see Hello Dolly at the Heywood Civic Centre and also a trip to Legoland at The Trafford Centre over the Easter break. We will of course be also holding our annual Family Fun Fest during the summer, which is always well attended.

”We actively encourage tenants and residents of Lower Falinge to become involved with the Activity Group and invite you to our Annual General Meeting on Thursday 19 March, 4.30pm, Lower Falinge Community Base, 238 Newstead, where the committee for the next 12 months will be elected.”
