Appeal for information following hit and run on Whitworth Road

Date published: 20 February 2015

The victim of a hit and run accident which occurred on Whitworth Road on Thursday (19 February) is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Amy Anderson was travelling in her car with her 11-month-old daughter at around 1.20pm yesterday when a car went into the back of her.

She said: “We were stopped in stationary traffic near Tesco on Whitworth Road and I saw him in the mirror and just knew he wasn’t going to stop. He just went into the back of me. He then reversed his car to turn around but as he did that, he reversed again and hit me a second time.”

Following the incident Amy is suffering from muscle and ligament damage and shoulder pain.

“The impact of the crash wasn’t that bad and the bumper is the only thing damaged, but the doctors think that I tensed up in anticipation of it and with the reaction, I have suffered some injuries.

“I think my daughter is ok but she was up crying most of the night. After it happened she was just screaming. We took her to the hospital this morning and we have been told to keep an eye on her,” said Amy.

The car that crashed into Amy was a silver Vauxhall Astra with the registration plate VK55PNL. After doing some of her own investigation work, Amy has discovered that the car may not have tax or insurance, hence why it left the scene.

She said: “The police didn’t say it wasn’t taxed or insured but we did a check online and it said that it wasn’t taxed or insured so that could be why he left. We believe that the car is registered to the Midlands.”

Amy now wants anyone who saw what happened or anyone who knows who the car belongs to, to get in touch.

“It’s obvious that he didn’t care about me or my daughter and I don’t want him to cause a fatal accident involving someone else,” added Amy.

Police have stated that enquires are ongoing.

Amy has asked that anyone with any information contact Rochdale Online and relevant details will be passed on to her.
