Heywood Charities Fete donates over £6,000 to local organisations

A number of local organisations are sharing £6,775 after money raised from last year’s Heywood Charities fete was spilt between them.

The Charities Fete, held in Queens Park, Heywood included activities for all ages, stalls and a parade through the town.

Organisations to benefit from the cash boost are:

• Tiddlywinks based at St John's Church Hall
• 12th Heywood Scouts in Darnhill
• Friends of Queens Park
• Heywood in Bloom
• 1st Heywood Scouts based in Hopwood 
• Rochdale Company of Archers
• Crimble Croft Play Group
• Roach Dynamo’s Football Club
• Heywood Blind Centre
• Transport for Sick Children
• Community Spirit Project
• St James Brownies
• Heywood Christmas Lights

Money was also donated to Roch Valley Raiders BMX club after they were the victims of a robbery. The club received a donation of £500.

In addition, over £4,000 was raised by local charitable organisations on the charity fete day.

George Kinder, who helps to organise the fete, said: “Last September's Heywood Charities Fete was the most successful for many, many years. Not only did we have a fantastic parade through the town with so many participants but we also had a wonderful carnival in Queen's Park attended by a few thousand people, fantastic backing from the whole community of Heywood, sponsors, advertisers and help from community funding.

“This was only achieved by lots of effort by members, friends and helpers of the Charities Fete Committee. Together with the bumper grants issued, it was a win, win for Heywood which we all know is a fantastic town.”

As well as handing out money to local organisations, the Charites Fete Committee presented Sandon House and Cherwell Court with their trophy for winner of the best parade float and St John's Explore Scouts Walking Group received a shield.

Steve Kay, who has been the Heywood Charities Fete Treasurer for many years and also one of the most active members of the organisation, received a special award of the Joan Rothwell Charity Shield.
