Rochdale Town Centre is set to face further changes as work to re-open the River Roch takes place.
Proposed changes to the town centre include the removal of the roundabout at the junction of Newgate, Yorkshire Street, The Esplanade and South Parade, which will be replaced by a new road junction.
A spokeswoman for Rochdale Borough Council, said: “The roundabout at the junction of Newgate, Yorkshire Street, The Esplanade and South Parade will be removed as part of the river re-opening project, which will begin next month. It will be replaced with a new junction.
“Roads in the area will remain open for the majority of the project to minimise disruption, with traffic flow being managed through the use of temporary traffic lights.”
Rochdale Council has already made a number of changes to town centre roads over recent months including a pedestrian crossing on Smith Street, a new taxi rank and loading bays on River Street and Faulkner Street and making Constantine Road open to traffic travelling both ways.
Work to re-open the River Roch is set to start next month and is hoped to be completed by the end of the year.
