Green volunteers hit Milnrow grot spots

Date published: 16 February 2015

Volunteers turned out armed with litter pickers, gloves and shovels for the first of a series of clean up days in Milnrow & Newhey.

Andy Kelly called the event a success and has promised to support more of the same in the future.

“We have collected around 15 sacks of litter in just over an hour this morning. What’s been really positive is the response from passers-by who have offered to join in and have suggested other areas to combat.” said Andy.

“The whole thing can only be done with the good will and support of local people. It’s really great to see residents giving up their free time to make our ward a nicer place to live.”

“We are having another action day on Saturday 28 February where we will be meeting with Green Volunteer team at 10am on Water Lane in Milnrow. I have also had requests to do the same in Newhey, so I’m proposing Saturday 14 March at the same time, and I would really like local residents to suggest their priority areas.”

Milnrow & Newhey Green Volunteers are supported by the council’s environmental management team, who provide bags, gloves and pickers, and arrange for the collection of litter and recycling after each event.
